I wish to...

  • live in a wooden house in a faraway land
  • close my eyes and and run wildly across beautiful meadows
  • go to the Caribbean 
  • learn to make the most ambrosial chocolates and confectioneries  
  • get lost in deep woods
  • run away with a Pirate
  • speak Portuguese 
  • travel in a horse carriage
  • unlearn everything I have learnt so far and forget everyone I know
  • be near the waterfalls during sunrise and the sea during sunset
  • kiss a stranger
  • dance in a bonfire, till every inch of my body hurts
  • collect one type each of all the gems strewn in the planet
  • swim in a deserted water body with no one watching
  • own thousands of pretty gowns in silk,satin, lace,velvet, chiffon, georgette...
  • go backpacking
  • do theater  
It's the Rains. Rains, that put me in a trance. That bring out my temptations and deepest desires. I think of so many things during Monsoon that I never think otherwise, I never dare think. The above is not some silly wishlist for the future. I want it now. All of it. Right NOW!

Verbatim nearly kills the beauty of the original verse, but without it we would never know that it was beautiful to begin with!

I have noticed how excessively I use the word 'random'!
Mamma got me a new 2010 diary. It is a handsome large diary!! The blog's got some competition now. I'll name it soon. Maybe I'll call it Nirvana like the previous one. For various reasons. I like the band ,I like sanskrit (was my elective at school), I'm fascinated by Buddhism and I LOVE the meaning- liberation from unhappiness, illumination, the ideal condition of rest, joy, stability, peace, harmony. It's beautiful! I wish I could have this name instead of the stupid name I have :x
But then, I can also call it kimaya. Dunno. Shall see.

Que sera sera

She knew it was coming, but she couldn't do anything about it. She predicted the fall of Troy. She foresaw everything, even her death. But nobody believed her, as she herself knew very well that nobody would, for she was cursed. And she knew she was cursed. So she did the next best thing-she went ahead and embraced her fate artistically, but not before giving it a tough fight. Brave girl Cassandra.

Ugh..I've been spending too much time on Wikipedia. I've been reading too much Roman mythology. And I've been watching too much war movies. Cruel, gory ones. I have no idea why the hell I'm doing this, but for the past couple of days I've been poring over every documented detail available on internet pertaining to the world wars. Infact I'm having this sudden urge to read Mein Kampf. Not exactly sudden though..I wanted to read it for sometime now.

Well..there's a distinct possibility that the citation may not be word to word correct, but meant more or less the same. And at this point of time, helps a lot in allaying my apprehensions.

PPS: Arbit it might seem, but trust me it's not. This is how I feel right now, and in the parlance of a completely confused person, this is the most appropriate thing to say. Que sera sera- Whatever will be, will be. I'm yet to listen to the Doris Day original version, but the Dixit-Deva dance was totally invigorating :)

shit happens

Imbecile! Blockhead! Dumbass! Jackass! Moron! Idiot! Pigheaded! Birdbrained!
I'm all this and more :X

why? Why? WHY? Why did I do it?
I acted most imprudently today. Which person? Which abysmally foolish person would ever rebuff such enticing a proposition, hmph? I still can't believe I said..well whatever I said.
Ohhh..God! I'd been dying for this to happen and when finally it did seem to materialize, I thoughtlessly blew it up. Dream.Wish.Pray.Disregard the answered prayers.Get rueful.That's what I always do. Why am I like this?

I don't deserve to make a wish. That's what. Because even if it comes to me on a platter, I take it and fling it as far as I can. This opportunity that I let go, I'm pretty sure wouldn't come again. And this time, it's nobody's fault but mine. No person to pass the buck to, no destiny to blame, no circumstances to accuse. All my fault :(

No point crying over spilt milk. Pay the price, learn from the mistakes (especially the one that has been made thrice now!) and move on.

gen stuff

I turned one week old today :)
Seriously.
Erm..Ok, fine fine! It's one week, sixty months and sixteen years :D :D
Dunno about feeling older but I definitely feel wiser :)

Last week was super fun. I love my friends :)
There are times when you don't want to thank god, or even wish for something. All you want to say is-" Hey, come down for a while and party with us" :D

I don't want to go to school. Why do I have to go to school? I'd do anything better than going to school.

Yeah, it's true. Mostly because there's no NSP*. Actually there is..not totally nsp, but somewhat nsp. But that too is not possible everyday :x

I'm in love with my new glares :)
When I look at these useless xeroxed pages, like the ones I'm looking at through the corner of my eye, I get irrirated. God knows how many chopping down of trees am I obliquely guilty for :( Ever since I started my college life getting stuff xeroxed- most of the times absolutely unnecessary ones-has become a routine. The owners of the local xerox shops know us pretty well by now. One doesn't even need to tell them what all you want to get xeroxed from the reference handbooks, the ones that they don't issue on a student's library card because apparently keeping such books in our possession is like..ahem..letting in a bull in the china shop! (I dunno if the idiom suits the context. I'm sure it doesn't. But what the hell, I like it and I'll use it.)
I don't like calling a photocopy, a xerox. But I still do because that's what people understand. Twice, I tried without success to get a photocopy done and both the times I was told-"hum to sirf xerox hi karte hain'!
Fine then! xerox, it will be.

I want to watch kaminey. And I want to sit on the rides they have in fairs. There's no mela here..huh :x

Why does my father always need the comp when I'm in a mood to blog? :x

blah

There are things one discovers, observes and concludes about oneself and others in the course of one's life. I haven't exactly completed my course of life (arrr..hopefully!).But yet, after each passing year our heads are fuller than the previous year. And this passing pseudo-gyaan needs to be recorded; how else will I laugh at my foolish younger self in my toothless and gray hair days? (Gray hair!! Ohhh..I shudder to think that my hair will turn gray one day :o)

Old facts:

  • Bournvita/Horlicks/Complan/Milo etc health drinks: All these taste much better in their powdered solid state than the intended liquid state.
  • First impressions may or may not be correct but first instincts are always correct.
  • The way guys talk when they're in the company of their guy friends is annoyingly different from the way they talk when their 'gang' is absent.
  • Kabaddi is more fun than lock and key.
  • Vanilla shakes are better than vanilla ice-creams.
  • To retain the lustre of the oil-paintings rub them with a dry slice of bread.
  • Skirts look better than jeans.
  • I think I'm a lot like Monica, although I've got a good deal of Phoebe in me. :)
  • Heels shift the centre of gravity of our body and thus musn't be worn for health reasons. But if you're 5'3'' like me, tell the person who told you this to go suck a lemon.


Recent gyaan:

  • Never take your mom shopping with you when you want to buy a backless halter. She wouldn't let you buy it. (Mine didn't). Always buy it first and then tell her that you bought it from the no-exchange section :P (this will be implemented the next time, which will be very soon *evil laughter*)
  • The chief minister himself would probably be more approachable than the department peon. Seriously. Imagine a life wherein you can strut around with an air of supreme self-importance, get a naive but dutiful assistant, look down upon the students as if they are absolute scum, and the toughest part of your job is making a pot of tea!
  • Flirting with a teacher is really uncool.
  • Majority of the people in the buses talk about buses.
  • Orkut was too much trouble than it was worth.
  • The concept of moral luck seems to be true enough.
  • Chololates are resistant to resistance.

Yeah, so anyway I got fined yesterday for exceeding the speeding limit. My first traffic fine :) Yesterday actually was a day of a lot of boo-boos and so was today :D

I desperately need something constructive to write about!

Inspiration

( I happened to come across a very soothing article written by a certain Mary Theresa Schmich, in a magazine. Even though it is just a bunch of advice, yet it isn't quite the one that comes from fuddy-duddies. It's cool. There's a certain feel good factor about it. Or that's what I thought after finishing it. In hope that it cheers all of you who stumbled upon this blog just the way it cheered me up, I'm reproducing it top to bottom, in here.)


Wear sunscreen.
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis of more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Oh, never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded. But trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are not as fat as you imagine.

Don't worry about future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4 p.m on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you.
Sing.
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts. Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss.
Don't waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind. The race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive. Forget the insults. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep old love letters. Throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch.

Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don't.

Accept some inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And when you do so, you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund. Maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse. But you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your hair or by the time you're 40 it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen.

mind games

Sometimes I wish I could perform legilimency (it isn't my fault if you still haven't read the legendary HP-google it up!). It would make social life so much simpler. No speculations even if people choose to bottle up their thoughts, no logical or illogical (odds in favour of this one in my case :D) deductions of their verbal and non-verbal communications, no 'what ifs', no 'could this means'. What's more,you can even pre-empt yourselves from getting lured into false ideas,and be able to judge people for who they actually are. Whenever in doubt,just look into the other person's mind and decipher their outlooks. How unproblematic that would be! And unethical,though it might be, yet I'm tempted to think what Rushdie's booker prize winner protagonist Salim Sinai thought when he discovered his telepathic powers- What peace during exams :D :D. No need to study at all,just scan the answers from within your fellow test takers' heads!!
It would have done my incorrigibly dreamy mind some real good.Unfortunately,I'm not gifted with this superhuman power,and hence my rowdy mind gets the reign. Subsequently driving me to the illusionary,unknown territories.No wonder I get lost-it's unknown after all!
Some people are just like that. It means nothing. "No! don't over analyze, don't over think"- I tell myself. Actually no need for any amount of analysis or thinking at all. Some people just talk that way. And yet, within those nuances of voices do I hear something else?Their behaviours are inherently abstruse. There's nothing suggestive in those periodic flatterings and the deliberate brush-offs (again here...basic instinct says they are deliberate-clumsily deliberate). And yet I wonder..No! No! Here I go again..urghh.. If I had my way I would have sent this over cogitating mind of mine on a long long vacation :x
Stupid, unscientific, quixotic mind- ponder over something constructive,not such worthless stuff!

Oh,I'm so tired today. Who says weekends are meant for fun? They drain me out completely!

PS: I'm amused at how absolutely incoherent this post appears! :D
PPS: But then it is indicative of my state of mind now, which just as this post is all vague.

oh DEAR god!

Call me insensitive,call me numb,say I'm devoid of emotions,you can even sue me for this if you wish,but the fact remains is that I don't like the word 'dear'. Not that,I don't like endearment words..oh,yes I do.I totally do...but not dear.

Maybe it's the extraneous usage of the word and not the word itself that drives me nuts. I mean..hello! what's wrong with people :o
Despite the fact that listening to erroneous english is nothing new to me,I just can't put up with this. I get rather crabby when absolute strangers,people who still haven't learnt to pronounce my name correctly call me dear. Do they even realise that dear is not a substitute for a name,that it is a kind word one uses for people they're emotionally attached to-not any Tom,Dick and Harry?
The worst is when a guy uses it for another guy-yikes! Buddy,dude,bro,man or even swear words for that matter.Of all these choices you chose to call your guy friend dear-how gay are you? :o
A lot of my friends/not really friends use it too. And although I appreciate the gesture,I still feel weird. I'm someone who talks to everyone,befriends most of them but then there are just a handful of people I permit to rule my world. And I think,it's not just me,we all do it. We all have some kind of hierarchy( arrr..reminds me I still have loads to do in das :( ) in our minds for our friends. I don't wish to admit that I rate and rank my friends,but off-record-I subconsciously do. And being a fiercely private person (Oh yes,even though people might feel that I'm an extrovert to my tips,I've got a good deal of an introvert in me) I tend to get a tad annoyed when people out of my close circle send me messages like- 'how're you dear?', 'I'm at the library dear', 'We're coming dear',etc.
Now I know any normal person would see no harm in this. Maybe some might even come close to calling me a misanthropist. But please don't judge me wrongly-it's just that I feel,one needs to understand the fact that when certain people occupy vital spaces in your life,and you fortify the bond by using endearment words, don't dilute it's effect by using it for ten other insignificant people. My fav intimate words are honey and baccha :),and there are very very few for whom I use it.Because the people I use it for are special to me,which is why it is their prerogatives to be treated as special ones. And then there are also words which are swear words actually but the way we use it is tantamount to endearment words. Like I,anu,chinky and uttara fondly call each other kamini :D

The Dream

Now now..I know that I first need to complete my In my humble opinion series-but this is kinda urgent. Urgent and... strange considering the fact that I seldom remember my dreams.I remember 'em in fragments,as flashes of a few hands,faces..that's it. I try very hard to recollect what I saw while I brush,but for some reason the dream dwindles away with a remarkable speed. But oddly enough, I have the vividest memory of what I saw last night. It was the lamest dream ever and yet it was a most bizarre one.

It concerned one of my classmates at school,with whom I'd severed ties long back( for reasons that I don't discuss with almost anyone). Apparently it was her wedding day,and she was about to get wedded in the night. We were all invited. Now this woman ( I just can't call her a lady,no matter how hard I try) came to our room,which btw looked more like a mansion than a room, and told us that she was planning to elope. We planned and schemed the whole operation-of how we are going to dodge people,how would we divert them,what things we need to pre-arrange. And then the day faded into twilight. According to the plan I was to go with her and her faceless guy to the court to bear witness to their nuptial. And so we somehow got out of the house running like kids as soon as we traversed the gate. The woman was in an attire that I imagine myself in these days while daydreaming of..let's just say something that makes me very exuberant. She sat on the driving seat,the faceless guy beside her and I was at the back seat. The faceless guy made me rather snobbish. He was the kind of guy I call (and I've successfully propagated this argot among my friends) lafandar. As we drove off I got into two school of thoughts.I was feeling weird,uncomfortable,asphyxiating mentally. I felt bad.I knew it was wrong. I was thinking of all those people back there who would be traumatized at the discovery,of the excruciating and mortifying moments that we were putting them through. I was angry at her selfishness,at the stupid plan,at the fact that I was behaving as a dumb driven cattle and yet was not abnegating.I prayed to return,for something to happen to take a detour ( I know going by the situation such feelings are way too extrapolated..but that is how I felt in the dream). And it happened.The court was closed and we returned.People were as happy as they were when we'd left.I was relieved..and then I was woken up by my mother.It was 8:15. I'd slept at 12..woah! that was a long sleep.
But I don't understand it. Why would I all of a sudden dream of a person whose existence I don't even acknowledge? Why would I be dreaming of stuff like marriage (that's for older people to dream about)? Why was she wearing my favorite dress?(I'm very possessive about my stuff.Real or imaginary-It matters not).Why did I remember this stupid dream of all the nice dreams (of course I don't remember them,but they must be nice because mostly when I wake up in the mornings,I get a very positive,hopeful and cheery feeling)? I'm clueless. I guess it was just a meaningless dream after all. chalo gotta stop.

an almost typical friday evening.

Just back from Chinky's treat :). She took me and anu to a place called Ikobo( yeah..that's how it is spelled, which means my vague attempts of spelling it in the previous post were all fruitless :D).Nice place,scrumptious food but bad parking!As we were coming back we decided to stop by Vastrapur lake( shall I just call it The Lake?). It has been such a while since I visited it.I wonder why it did not get constructed when we had to go school in the same area-for twelve long years.Shame! It would have been a nice hang out spot after prelims,after school-during school for some people(not me! I was a very good girl who never bunked classes :))
Anyway, The Lake brings back a lot of good ,happy and spicy memories.Good and happy memories are related to school friends and spicy memory is related to a certain college friend:P We had caught a classmate red-handed holding hands with a guy who she later confessed out of pressure was her fiance after all! I can never forget that day-that mortified look on her face on seeing the last bunch of people she wanted to see at that time...hahahaha..we still rag her about it at the drop of a hat :D She hasn't set a foot inside The Lake after that rather revealing incident! ;)

But other couples do not think along the similar lines.The Lake is a lovers' hub.It is a rendezvous place for all those very-much-in-love couples who seem to regard a moment not indulging in PDA as a moment wasted. I will perhaps never understand the psychology behind PDA.What satisfaction can people possibly get by advertising their private lives infront of a host of strangers? And some of these love birds create such nuisance that they make the other bystanders extremely uncomfortable.So much so that one really wishes to pass a discourteous remark-Go get a room! (And if you already have one-Use It!!).
Anyway,the three of us found a bright spot near the fountain.Bright spots always give privacy to people who've come with friends since the PDA public shirk away from straying in a lightened vicinity and choose to sit in the dark and hidden corners instead. We then as usual opened up our respective jeremiad. Strangely our personal lives run in parallel.All three of us seem to hit the bottom at the same time.I don't know why do we even bother to discuss them.They're clearly an ilk of people who don't seem to care-at all.I think it is a gender fault-they're all insensitive by default. I would have written pages on this topic,about the things we discussed,about the people we discussed,I so badly want to.But because I'm very aware of the fact that this isn't private-I won't.
So,that's it.We sat and talked for a long time and then rode back home while halting one more time to fulfill chinky's impulsive desire to eat a chocolate cone.("mujhe neend nahi aayegi agar maine ye nahi khaya to :D)
ps: I realise my posts are painfully lenghty,but yet they aren't even two percent of how much I have in my mind :)

pps: Since the next post would be a silver jubilee plus a perfect square post,I won't write it unless some really interesting/sensational topic pops up in my head.

This song by Madonna enthralled me in my early teens (for reasons i refrain from mentioning here).I used to sing it all the time! And then one day it abruptly got out of my mind. But it has made a re-entry in my life since some time. I'm humming this after a hiatus of five years or so ( for reasons mystically unknown to me-but i have a hunch).
Surprisingly i've remembered the lyrics all along!
